On Thursday, February 13, 2025, a collaborative effort between the World Vision Rwanda, the Rwanda Extractive Industry Workers Union (REWU),and the Association Mwana Ukundwa (AMU) resulted in a meaningful discussion with children who had experienced unplanned pregnancies.
The discussions focused on helping the young mothers come to terms with their experiences while offering reassurance that their futures remain bright despite the challenges they have endured.
The event, led by a REWU representative in the Ishema Cluster, aimed to provide emotional support to the girls, reminding them that their dreams are still achievable.
Organizers encouraged the young mothers to take an active role in shaping a better future by focusing on education and vocational training.
In addition, attendees received guidance on essential prenatal and postnatal care, with an emphasis on proper nutrition for both mothers and newborns to prevent malnutrition.
This aspect of the discussion aimed to equip the young mothers with the knowledge they need to support themselves and their children effectively.
Many of the girls have already begun vocational training programs, allowing them to develop skills for self-sufficiency and economic independence.
Organizers also urged the young mothers to seek justice, ensuring that those responsible for their abuse face legal consequences.
