Kigali, Rwanda — August 11, 2025 — The Rwanda Mining Football Competition is set to ignite the sports and mining sectors with an exhilarating tournament beginning 16th August 2025. Organized by the Rwanda Extractive Industry Workers Union (REWU) in collaboration with Rwanda Mines, Petroleum, and Gas Board (RMB), the Rwandan Miners Association (RMA), the Federation of Mining Cooperatives in Rwanda (FECOMIRWA), Kumbuka Afrika, this annual event aims to combine the thrill of football with critical sector awareness.

The first matches are scheduled to start on August 16, 2025, with knockout rounds leading up to the grand final, which will be held during the Mining Week 2025, on 04th December. The tournament will showcase the best talent from mining companies across Rwanda, offering non-stop action and community engagement.

Beyond entertainment, the competition serves as a powerful platform to enhance corporate social responsibility, visibility of the mining industry and raise awareness on vital issues such as occupational health and safety standards, environmental protection, and sustainable industry growth.

The goal is to foster solidarity among mining companies, mineworkers, industry stakeholders, and local communities through the universal language of football. “This tournament is more than just a game; it’s an opportunity to promote safety, environmental responsibility, opportunity for financial investment, and sector collaboration.”

Since its inception in 2023, the Rwanda Extractive Industry Workers Union (REWU) has successfully organized this tournament to encourage collaboration, sector visibility, and community involvement. Past editions have attracted approximately 700,000 spectators across various venues, and this year’s event promises to be even larger and more impactful.
