On March 12, 2026, in the Gishyita Sector of Karongi District, REWU, in partnership with World Vision Rwanda, conducted training for youth committees. This youth represents their peers from the village, cell and sector levels, and their committees are tasked with the responsibility of protecting and safeguarding children.
The training aimed to educate participants on:
- Preventing child abuse.
- Timely reporting of child abuse to the relevant authorities when it occurs.
- Following up with abused children until they receive medical care, justice, and all other necessary support for their full recovery and well-being.
Attendees were also informed about the methods for preserving evidence in cases of child abuse and the toll-free lines they can use to report incidents.
Following a review of specific examples of child abuse prevalent in the sector, a joint action plan was developed to guide efforts in eradicating such abuse.
The sector leadership expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the support provided by REWU and World Vision in the child protection campaign, especially for their attention to children with special issues and ensuring that victims of abuse receive justice.
