The Promotion of Decent Work through the Recognition of Prior Learning Program is a initiative by the Rwanda Extractive Industry Workers Union in Partnership with the Rwanda Mining, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB), the Rwanda TVET Board and the support of Enabel Rwanda aimed at improving the working conditions and opportunities for workers in the extractive industry sector. The program focuses on recognizing the skills and experience that workers already possess, even if they were not acquired through formal education or training. By assessing, acknowledging and validating these skills, the program seeks to help workers advance in their careers, access better job opportunities, and ultimately improve their overall quality of life.
Through the Recognition of Prior Learning Program, the union provides support and resources for workers to undergo assessments and evaluations of their existing skills and knowledge. Based on the results of these assessments, workers may receive certifications or qualifications that can help them progress in their careers.
Overall, the program aims to promote decent work practices within the extractive industry sector by valuing and leveraging the skills and experience of workers, ultimately leading to improved job security, better wages, and greater job satisfaction for union members.
