The International Tin Supply Chain Initiative ( ITSCI) has extended training to the Mining Cooperatives that are operating in the Northern, Southern and Eastern Provinces of Rwanda.

The two days training which was held in Musanze from 28th -29th October, 2021 focused on various topics including:
· Mining Laws, Regulations and standards presented by Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB),
· Employment Contracts with Employers presented by the Rwanda Extractive Industry Workers Union (REWU),
· Performance and defects in Cooperatives and accepted standards in Cooperative Management by FECOMIRWA and Rwanda Cooperatives Agency (RCA)
· OECD guidelines and traceability procedures by ITSCI
· and Human Rights in Mining by APEDDH.

Such training helps mining partners to develop skills and professionalism to avoid mistakes that could result from non-compliance to the laws, regulations and guidelines in the sector and also the rights of the employee and the Employer either nationally or internationally.
Similar training was held in Karongi District of the Western Province of Rwanda where Mining Cooperatives were also trained on the same subjects.

According to the organizers, the main objectives of the workshop were to:
· Reinforce managerial skills for cooperatives;
· Train cooperatives on labor, mining, tax and environmental laws;
· Disseminate the importance of responsible mineral supply chain;
· Monitor the current compliance status with mining and labor laws as well as regulations, mining standards.
