Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva Underscores Regulatory Commitment and Global Reliability at Rwanda Mining Week 2025

KIGALI, Rwanda Emphasizing Rwanda’s growing role in the global transition toward environmental sustainability, Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva officially opened the 8th Edition of Rwanda Mining Week 2025 in Kigali today.

Addressing an audience of ministers, senior government officials, and international guests, the Prime Minister highlighted the country’s vision to position itself as a “trusted and forward-looking partner” in the global mining sector.

This year’s theme, “Minerals for a smarter and greener future,” reflects the government’s focus on the critical necessity of strategic minerals in empowering modern economies.

“Mining is not only about the extraction of resources. It is about creating opportunities for growth, innovation and shared prosperity,” Prime Minister Nsengiyumva stated during his opening address. He noted that the sector has evolved into a key pillar of national development, providing essential livelihoods to thousands of Rwandans while making significant contributions to the broader economy.

Key highlights from the Prime Minister’s address include:

  • Global Reliability: As the world moves toward a low-carbon future, the Prime Minister asserted that Rwanda stands ready to act as a “principled, responsible and reliable partner” and supplier of strategic minerals.
  • Regulatory Commitment: The government pledged to maintain a stable and transparent regulatory environment. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of strengthening governance to support cooperation and promote “responsible and sustainable investments”.
  • Community and Standards: The vision for the sector is to remain fully aligned with international standards. Dr. Nsengiyumva stressed that mining activities must “deliver tangible benefits to local communities,” safeguard the environment, and contribute to long-term stability.

The Prime Minister also called for deepening partnerships with investors and researchers to unlock opportunities across the entire value chain.

“Let this mining week serve as a platform for productive dialogue, collaboration, and renewed commitment to a sector that drives economic transformation while protecting our planet,” Dr. Nsengiyumva said before declaring the event officially open.
