In order to continue supporting the social welfare of mining workers, REWU and Rwanda Foam factory collaborated to distribute mattresses to 54 New Bugarama Mine workers on Friday, May26, 2023. The mattresses were worth Rwf4,707,000 and will be paid in installments. This marks the second time that REWU has distributed mattresses to the workers of New Bugarama Mining Company.

Theophile Mutsinzi, who is REWU Trade Union President at NBM, states that this activity is significant as it contributes to the other achievements that REWU advocates for. He goes on to explain that the advocacy efforts of REWU have resulted in the establishment of an ECD at their working place done by the NBM Company Management in partnership with RMB, UNICEF, NCDA and REWU, where mothers finds a safe place to leave their children while they work, hence their income is increasing as well as the company’s production.

He also stated that they appreciate the advocacy carried out by REWU Trade union in assisting miners to obtain certification through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program which is ongoing and which is a joint collaboration of REWU; Rwanda TVET Board;  Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB), the Ministry of Public service and labour (MIFOTRA), Enabel as well as the NBM company Management.
