On May 20, 2026, in Karongi District under the Isonga AP program, the Rwanda Extractive Industry Workers Union (REWU), in partnership with World Vision Rwanda, conducted a child protection training for ARDE KUBAHO Community Volunteers. These volunteers are responsible for the daily follow-up and monitoring of children supported by World Vision. Participants came from the sectors of Rugabano and Gitesi.
The training aimed to strengthen the volunteers’ knowledge and capacity in protecting and promoting children’s rights. Participants were trained on child rights, prevention of violence and abuse against children, and the importance of reporting child abuse cases promptly to the appropriate authorities. They were also guided on how to support abused children so they can access medical care, justice, and other services necessary for their recovery and well-being.
In addition, the volunteers were taught how to preserve evidence in cases of child abuse and informed about toll-free hotlines that can be used to report incidents quickly and safely.
After reviewing examples of child abuse cases identified in the area, participants developed a joint action plan that will guide efforts to eliminate violence against children within their communities.
The participants expressed appreciation for the continuous support and knowledge provided by REWU and World Vision Rwanda in promoting child protection, supporting vulnerable children, and helping victims of abuse access justice.
The training concluded successfully.
