REWU joins World Vision Rwanda and other Partners to Celebrate Day of the African Child in Karongi District

On June 16, 2024, World Vision Rwanda, the Rwanda Extractive Industry Workers Union (REWU), and other partners in the Karongi District came together to celebrate the Day of the African Child.
The theme for the Day of the African Child in 2024 is “Education for all children in Africa: the time is now”, aligning with the African Union’s Year of Education which focuses on building resilient education systems to ensure increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality and relevant learning in Africa.
The event took place in the Gishyita sector of the Karongi District and was attended by various stakeholders who are dedicated to promoting education and the well-being of children.

The event kicked off with lively performances by children from different schools in Gishyita sector, showcasing their talents in poetry recitation, drama, and dance.


UMUHOZA Pascasie, the Deputy Mayor of the District overseeing social affairs was the guest of honor.


Other representatives include Josephine Mushimimana from World Vision, Eng. Mutsindashyaka Andre, the General Secretary of REWU, as well as representatives from security agencies and other partners in the district.

Children and parents alike were filled with joy throughout the event.
In a joint collaboration World Vision Rwanda and REWU awarded children from the Child Protection Clubs (CP Club) with bags and notebooks. Various partners have also provided support to underprivileged children to ensure that they are able to study without hindrances.

In a special initiative, adults who have completed Literacy Program were also presented with certificates. Children were given milk as a symbol of support for proper nutrition and healthy child development.

During various speeches, officials emphasized the importance of upholding children’s rights, particularly in ensuring access to quality education.
The celebration concluded with a lively dance where children expressed their joy and celebrated their special day.
